North Bengal Medical College and Hospital located in the foot hills of the mighty Himalayas, is the nearest Medical College to Sandakphu, the place with highest altitude in whole West Bengal and from where best panoramic view of the Sleeping Buddha, the mighty Kanchenjunga can be cherished. Till date this is the Medical College with largest coverage area in whole West Bengal, which not only covers more than six districts, but also patients come from allied border regions of other three countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan. It is the Largest Healthcare Facility in the North Bengal region of West Bengal serving as a Tertiary Referral Institute and has teaching programs for both Graduation and Post-Graduation. It is one of the twelve Government Medical Colleges in West Bengal with a patient turn-over of more than thousand, with a patient occupancy rate of 137%.

North Bengal Medical College and Hospital is in Sushrutanagar, a sister township of Siliguri at District Darjeeling of West Bengal. Besides providing the tuition to the MBBS students, it is also enriched by its sister institutions like North Bengal Dental College and the College of Nursing in the same campus. Not only this, it also provides different paramedical courses run by the West Bengal Medical Council.

In the college section in 2004, the institute achieved the milestone to be reckoned as the Post-graduate institute with introduction of MD/MS courses in five specialised disciplines like Anatomy, Physiology, Community Medicine, Pathology and Anaesthesiology, which were recognized by the Medical Council of India in 2007. Procurement of Grant from NBDD & Forest Dept. for beautification. Discussion on the go, with NBDD for further Beautification, Water Purifier, Mechanized Laundry etc. and with Siliguri Municipal Corporation for establishing Compactor Station and One-Time Cleaning.
